The Meat and Poultry Program inspects custom processing facilities that process domestic livestock for the animal's owners as a service. These facilities are exempt from?animal-by-animalinspections, butfacilities are inspected periodically for proper sanitation, record-keeping, and compliance with?relevant Nevada Revised Statutes,Administrative Codes and?USDA?standards. Meat and poultry processed by custom processors may?only be provided to the?owner of the animal and may not be resold at retail.??

The first step towards obtaining a Custom Meat and Poultry License is to submitan application to the NDA.?The application is linked below. A plan review will begin once the application is received, and?application?fee is processed.?? The new facility plan review requires a one-time fee of $600. An annual application fee of $250 and will be due at the time of application. Licenses are only valid for the calendar year in which they were applied and expire on December 31 of the year it was obtained.? Renewal fees will be due by December 31 of the issued year.??

Nevada State Meat and Poultry Inspection

Nevadas State Meat and Poultry Inspectionwill adhere to all relevant Nevada laws and USDA FSISat-least equal to requirements. State Inspectors must be present during slaughter and some processing in order for the meat and/or poultry to be sold within the state.?State inspectors will verify the humane handling of animals and conduct ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections in slaughter facilities. Facilities that are under?Meat and Poultry Inspection Program are inspected for proper sanitation, record-keeping and compliance with relevant regulations. These products can only be sold in Nevada.??

The first step towards obtaining a Meat or Poultry Permit is to submitan application to the NDA. Please email MeatInspection@agri.nv.gov for this application.? A plan review will begin once the application is received, and?application?fee is processed.? The new facility plan review requires a one-time fee of $750.? The application fee is $500 and must be renewed yearly.??

Depending on the scope of either your state inspected or custom business, you mayalso need to obtain letters of approval from various agencies that might also have jurisdiction on various aspects of your operation.??These items should be provided with your application.????
